Following a strict skin care routine is crucial in order to keep your skin glowing and young-looking. It’s essential to have an effective skincare regimen to keep your skin at its best without having to spend vast amounts on anti-aging treatments. As we age our skin gets to a point where a plain moisturizer isn’t enough. The best anti-aging skincare routine doesn’t have to be too complicated it should simply include – sun protection, cleansing, moisturizing, nourishing, using anti-aging products, a proper diet, exercising.
It’s crucial to follow a strict skin care regimen every day to keep your skin clear healthy and young-looking.
- SUN PROTECTION
Of all influences that cause aging of the skin, appearance of dark spots and wrinkles and fine lines, no single one is as important as the sunlight. The harmful sun’s rays are responsible for premature aging of the skin. Excessive sun exposure leads to appearance of brown spots, appearance and accentuation of wrinkles and fine lines, skin discolorations. The damage caused by the sun is the leading cause of skin aging as the sun impacts collagen production in the skin (the sun’s rays penetrate deeply and destroy skin fibres and elasticity causing long-term effects).
A good sunscreen will give you immediate protection against both UVA and UVB rays, which can cause sunburn and wrinkles. The sun protecting products deliver long-lasting moisture where it is required, vitamin D and vitamin E to combat the free radicals, they help prevent premature ageing and sun damage. During the hotter summer months apply facail sunscreen with SPF at least 15 every day to minimize the appearance of dark spots and fine lines, wrinkles, skin discolorations. Today most of the cosmetics products such as foundations, face powders and lipsticks also offer sun protection (with SPF 15 or higher).
You should start using and applying as early as possible as it will deliver benefits later in life.
Remember: using and applying sunscreen every day is the best way to prevent sun damage and skin aging, that’s why wearing sunscreen that provides protection against both UVA and UVB rays is probably the most important part of anti-aging skin care routine.
- FACIAL CLEANSING
The key to healthy, beautiful and younger-looking facial skin is proper cleansing to remove oil, dirt, makeup, dead surface cells and other impurities that come to rest on and under the skin. Your skin should be cleansed at least two times a day – in the morning and in the evening. Using facial cleansers is essential part of the basic skin-care routine. The cleansers leave the skin feeling clean, smooth and non-oily.There is a wide range of different cleansing products appropriate for different skin types. They not only remove the impurities and oils, embedded in your pores, but they also moisturize and nourish your skin, remove the dead skin cells and shrink large pores.
Choose a cleanser that suits your skin type and doesn’t dry your skin. Look for a mild facial cleanser containing glycolic acid or hydroxy acids. Use a facial toner to remove any traces of makeup residue and to nourish your skin. The toners remove the traces of makeup, dirt and oil that your cleanser may have missed. They also reduce pores, eliminate oil and refine the skin. What they do in addition to making your skin feel tighter, is prepare the skin for moisturizers.
- EXFOLIATE REGULARLY
Exfoliating the skin regularly is very important for every age and for every skin type. Exfoliating the skin boost the skin’s natural cell-shedding process which slows down as we age. When exfoliating you remove the dead skin cells and the oils that can cause pores to plug and lead to problems like blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and acne. Exfoliating your skin will encourage a newer, smoother and healthier skin surface by helping to unclog pores, prevent breakouts and diminish dry lines, blemishes and pigmentation spots. If you don’t remove these cells regularly they can clog the sebaceous pores and make your skin look dull, patchy and older-looking. Make sure the exfoliator suits your skin type and doesn’t contain any harsh ingredients or chemicals. Exfoliating twice a week should be enough to keep your skin clean and to restore its glow. Don’t exfoliate your face more than twice as over-exfoliating may result in removing healthy new skin and may lead to hypersensitivity.
Remember: exfoliating your face at least twice a week should be an integral part of your anti-aging skin care routine.
- MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN
As we age our skin becomes less elastic and smooth as the production of natural oils slows, resulting in dull, dehydrated skin. That’s why it’s essential to replenish the lost moisture with a good moisturizer or a hydrating cream. A good hydrating face cream that helps skin to retain moisture will plump your skin and will boost cell performance. A quality cream will create a barrier against possible moisture loss and reconstitute the hydrolipidic film on the skin’s surface. The better the quality of your moisturizer the more protection from dryness it will give you. If you are concerned with blemishes you might try oil-free moisturizer. Always make sure your moisturizer is appropriate for your skin type and look for a moisturizing product that provides sun protection (with SPF 15 or higher). Apply moisturizer every time you feel your skin tight and dry and don’t forget to moisturize your neck too.
- USE ANTI-AGING PRODUCTS
Using anti-aging skincare products is crucial in order keep your skin healthy and younger-looking. Most of the anti-aging products contain Retinol, collagen, alpha-hydroxy acids, vitamins and minerals which are known to help stop the signs of aging and to erase fine lines and wrinkles. When applied to the skin the ingredients that the anti-aging cream contains inhibit muscle movements to soften wrinkles and prevent new wrinkles to form. The ingredients penetrate the outer layer of the skin and work to repair and stimulate collagen and elastin production in the skin. The anti-aging creams help rebuild the skin’s support structure, define cheekbones and help repair any signs of sagging around the neck and chin. As well as fighting fine lines and wrinkles the anti-aging products help renews your skin’s elasticity by stimulating its natural healing process. Most of the women and men begin using anti-aging creams once they reach 30s while the others start using anti-aging products at an early stage.
Use a day cream that sinks in quickly and easily providing a barrier against pollutants and the drying effects of indoor and outdoor environments. Look for anti-wrinkle cream that contains Retinoids as they normalize cell renewal, diminish fine lines and wrinkles and increase cell turnover.
Use a night cream
Before going to bed, apply a regenerating night cream. It’ll protect your skin from the loss of moisture and the skin will look be more elastic and fresh in the morning.
Use an eye cream
The eyes also need attention. The skin around the eyes is very delicate and sensitive, and that’s why you should use special eye creams or gels that are specifically made for the delicate eye area. Most of them contain ingredients that relax the muscles, vitamins, retinol and collagen. Use an anti-aging eye cream in the morning and at night. In the morning – a product that treats the dark circles under the eyes, and in the evening – for nourishing the delicate skin. Most of the eye creams and serums contain retinol, collagen, alpha-hydroxy acids, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin A and cucumber extract.
- DO FACE MASKS
Do a face mask once or twice a week to give your skin a deep cleanse – essential if your skin is exposed to pollutants. The facial masks are probably the easiest way to maintain a beautiful and healthy skin. There are different types of masks appropriate for different skin types. When applying a mask once or twice a week your skin will be smoother, softer and cleaner.
If your skin is oily or combination try a clay-based mask to tighten your skin and shrink enlarged pores. Hydrating face masks work best for mature skin.
Remember: firming and hydrating face masks should be essential part of your anti-aging skin care regimen as your skin will need more moisture and nourishing.
- MASSAGE YOUR FACE
Massaging your face is a good way to keep your skin healthy-looking. When massaging your face you will stimulate blood circulation and relax your face and neck muscles, relieving the visible signs of tiredness and aging. Massaging your face in the morning or in the evening will boost your blood circulation and will warm your skin so skincare products sink in faster; skin feels firmer and more glowing. Facial massage reduces the unattractive fleshiness, tightens the tissues and muscles and increases blood circulation. It will help keep the skin hydrated and encourage you to relax.
- FOLLOW A PROPER DIET
Eating a healthy, balanced diet is essential for healthy and young-looking skin. The more nutrients you send to your skin cells, the healthier your skin is going to be. Eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible – they are not only loaded with vitamins and minerals but they are also a rich source of biologically active ingredients. Eat foods rich in antioxidants – citrus fruits, oranges, red vegetables, fresh salads, cereals. Avoid eating fatty or oily foods.
- KEEP YOURSELF HYDRATED
It’s crucial to drink plenty of water daily to keep your skin and body well-hydrated and to get rid of the toxins in your organism. Drink at least 1.5 liter of mineral water per day.
- EXERCISE REGULARLY
Get into a routine of exercise that fits with your lifestyle. Find a way to exercise that enjoy so you will stay motivated to work out.
- QUIT SMOKING
Smoking is bad not only for your overall health but also for the way your skin looks. It’s proven that smokers age prematurely and wrinkles at an early stage of their lives. Smoking decreases the flow of blood to the skin, leaving your complexion dull, it promotes wrinkles and fine lines, deprives your skin of oxygen and robs your body of essential vitamins. Those who smoke every day get more wrinkles all over their face because of the nicotine – it constructs the tiny capillaries that nourish the skin. Smoking ages skin faster than anything else apart from sun damage. It contracts your blood vessels and therefore doesn’t allow enough oxygen to reach the skin’s surface, resulting in dull-looking skin.
